Job description
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. United by our passion for progress and technology, we drive science and research forward every day. Together, we can pave the way for discoveries that will help to make our world a better place.
You will join the Reactor Block, Fuel and Sources group, which is part of the Mechanical Engineering Service in the ILL’s Reactor Division. We are looking for a mechanical maintenance technician, who will be part of the Load-handling sub-group in the Reactor Block, Fuel and Sources group.
Your tasks
Your duties will be to:
- Perform fuel-related handling operations: fuel element loading and unloading operations, replacement of water inside the fuel handling columns, etc.
- Maintain the equipment that makes up the reactor’s handling facilities: fuel handing columns, reactor pool gates, etc.
- Conduct periodic inspections and requalification of the pressure equipment used by the group
- Draft procedures, technical specifications, minutes and reports
- Manage maintenance sites from their preparatory phase through to completion of the work
- Assist on an occasional basis with the operation of other equipment under the group’s responsibility.
You may be required either to:
- Monitor the subcontracted maintenance of certain equipment: handling cranes and gantries, diesel generator sets.
- Operate and maintain the hot cell used to cut up irradiated equipment and produce radioisotopes for the pharmaceutical industry.
Please note that all applicants are subject to administrative screening (background checks). For this post, medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required. You will also have to perform an emergency response role in the event of a crisis.
